Restoring Peace through Music

Marharyta's Story

Nine-year-old Marharyta was deeply affected by the "Our Planet" theme, but I couldn't help but notice her restless hands constantly moving across the school table. Both of her parents were actively involved in the fight for Ukraine, and she had been evacuated by a caring neighbor. Concerned for Marharyta's well-being, I approached Lena, the neighbor, and inquired if there was anything I could do to bring her some solace. The expression on Lena's face spoke volumes as she revealed the reason behind Marharyta's restlessness.

"Marharyta lost her piano," Lena explained, her voice tinged with sadness. "She had been playing it every day since she was four years old and even performed in Lviv. Since we arrived in Warsaw, she hasn't been able to sleep peacefully."

Before my journey to Poland, some of my American friends had gifted me money specifically designated for Ukraine, which I had set aside for discretionary use. Marharyta's situation presented an opportune moment to make a difference. Without hesitation, I made the decision to gift this remarkable girl with a keyboard. Together with Lena, we researched and identified the best keyboard within our means. I provided the necessary funds, Lena made the purchase, and for the first time since the war began, Marharyta was able to find solace and sleep soundly, embraced by the comforting melodies of her new keyboard.
