Another explorative session
We are so proud of all the discoveries and connections your kids have made! Here is Ryan’s summary:
Yesterday, Monday 11/16 at Cogitania we learned about intermolecular bonds and polymers. The discussion was very beneficial, especially once we explored the main experiments for the day. The first was creating a colorful polymer sphere by converting sodium alginate to calcium alginate. After conducting this experiment, the students reviewed there knowledge of bonds within the atom and the bonding differences between sodium and calcium. Then, the students deduced the intermolecular bonding driving the polymer to become a sphere. The students also made casein polymer from milk and vinegar. We briefly discussed the background behind this polymer, but will cover the reaction more extensively next week.
