scaly and bumpy skin
Dear Parents,
In the session today we have taken the kids first to the lab to look at 2 unidentified objects. Your kids were the detectives. They have - based on prior experience - stated that the examined objects were a fish and a bird skin. Under farther observation they have noticed scales on one and bumps where they thought the feathers once were on the other. They have looked at the fish and bird (turkey) skin and noticed that one was more stretchable and less dense - reasoned that if a bird has to fly it all makes sense as an effective design. They have also think of a skin as a response to the environment - a GREAT discovery! as well as a protection.
We moved on to look at our own skin and in the second half of the session the kids build their own scientific models of a human skin.
