Everything nano

Dear Parents,

Today we had a discussion about nanostructures. This specifically was about what nanostructures are, how they are synthesized, and their applications. We analyzed our results from the experiment we began last week, observing that silver nanoparticles are effective as antibacterials, yet are more effective against Gram (–) than Gram (+) bacteria. We reasoned through how silver nanoparticles work and why they work better for Gram (–) bacteria. We also thought about other applications, with the students developing really creative (and actual) purposes for nanostructures, such as drug delivery systems in cancer.
