Are you ready for some new challenges?

Dear All,

I just wanted to introduce the instructor for the fall and possibly beyond: Spencer Martin. He is a graduate student who started his math and physics studies at NDUS and moved to Cambridge (GB) for farther studies, transferred to BU and works in a research lab at MIT in dynamic systems.  I am aware that Ryan has set a high standard and am currently working with Spencer on the curriculum and the philosophy of teaching at Cogitania.

Spencer came with an interesting proposal, he would like to start with “The nature of puzzles and puzzles in nature”, which he thinks can introduce your kids to methods used in physics to solve problems. They will look at Watson and Crick and their path to discovery of DNA (quite a puzzle), they will get familiar with Feyman and beyond.

Following will be “Modeling of the natural world in physics" – why they are important and how to construct them. Further still we will explore the importance of classical physics and Newton. Lastly we will investigate classical physics (light and gravity) and its impact on astronomy. We won't stop there as we end up with, breaking dogmas, why long held ideas aren’t always correct. We may even have time to explore Einstein’s theory of Relativity.

Let me know what you think and please, confirm that your child is ready. We will start on 9/12 at 3:45-5:15. I am happy to help. We can take up to 4 kids from SH!

warmly,
Joanna
