Mind Control … it's magnetic.

Here’s the summary for last week:

In the last session, we revisited key points of past workshops. One topic that piqued the boys’ interest was the topic of mind control (thanks to White Rabbit Project), so we investigated the extent to which current technologies are able to “control” minds. We talked about neurological disorders like Parkinson’s and mental disorders like depression, and showed how some recent treatments of these disorders rely on stimulating different areas of the brain using magnetic fields (i.e., with transcranial magnetic stimulation). We ended the session by watching a cool TED video demonstrating how one can control the muscle movements of another:

I had a lot of fun introducing the two boys to psychology and neuroscience. They were wonderful students, and I hope that they never lose their curiosity and fascination with the world around them.

Best,
Lily
