Good Vibrations
We learned about vibrational quantization of bonds between atoms within a molecule. We derived the total energy of vibrational motion using Hooke’s Law and relating this to solving the Schrodinger equation. We also finished our discussion of n- and p-type semiconductors and their application in diodes. The experiment we conducted explored how excitation of vibrational modes could lead to changing colors of thermochromic liquid crystal materials. The following are images from the experiment.
