electronic motion

Today we covered electronic motion, and derived the wavefunction and energy of an electron or set of electrons orbiting an atom. We also broadly discussed the four types of motion, which we will further study in the following two weeks. The students were filled with excellent questions and had a good refresher of the concepts and math we have learned already. We then explored how this electronic energy is utilized in a diode, as well as covered what an n-type and p-type semiconductor is. This led us to our experiment, where the students constructed their own organic LED, which worked very well. The students brought these home (and can show their parents)!

By knowing the structure of the chemicals involved, as well as the discussion held today, the students successfully deduced how an oLED works and which molecule was the n-type and p-type semiconductor.
