Hiding the Earth Behind Your Thumb
Dear Parents,
A precious session today! Your girls have been exposed to the concept of size, scale and proportion on an astronomical scale. Using a toilet paper role they have been marking in an accurate scale distances of all the 8 planets of our solar system from the sun! In order to do that, they needed to find a common unit for the distance. We have flexed their sense of time and space. I am thrilled to see how willing they are to embrace these difficult ideas! They have also learned all the names of the planets in sequence.

It will be great if they could see a science video on our solar system, listen more about each planet. there is only so much we can do once a week in 75 min! We've left you a short video that will leave you bewildered at the incredible size of our little backyard in space, our solar system.
